Fixing Network and Port Forwarding Issues for Minecraft PE Servers

23rd Dec 2021

Minecraft Pe

Minecraft Pocket Edition (PE) offers a portable and immersive Minecraft experience on mobile devices. Hosting a Minecraft PE server allows you to enjoy multiplayer gameplay with friends and other players. However, network and port forwarding issues can sometimes hinder your ability to connect to or host a Minecraft PE server. In this article, we'll explore common network and port forwarding issues for Minecraft PE servers and provide tips to help you overcome them.

Check Network Connectivity

Before troubleshooting any network issues, ensure that your mobile device is connected to a stable and reliable network. Connect to a Wi-Fi network with a strong signal or use a cellular data connection with a stable reception. Unstable network connections can lead to connectivity issues and lag in multiplayer gameplay.

Port Forwarding

Port forwarding is an essential step for hosting a Minecraft PE server. It allows incoming connections to bypass your router's firewall and reach your device. Here's a step-by-step guide to port forwarding:

a. Determine Your Local IP Address: On your mobile device, go to the Wi-Fi settings and find the IP address assigned to your device on the local network.

b. Access Your Router's Settings: Open a web browser on a connected device and enter your router's IP address (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) in the address bar. Log in to your router's settings using the administrator credentials.

c. Find the Port Forwarding Settings: Locate the port forwarding or virtual server settings in your router's settings. The location may vary depending on the router model. Look for options related to "port forwarding," "virtual server," or "NAT."

d. Add a New Port Forwarding Rule: Create a new port forwarding rule by specifying the necessary details:- External Port: The port number that external devices will use to connect to your Minecraft PE server (e.g., 19132).- Internal IP: Your device's local IP address obtained in Step 2a.- Internal Port: The same port number as the external port.- Protocol: Choose "TCP/UDP" or "Both" if available.

e. Save the Settings: Save the port forwarding settings and exit your router's configuration interface.

Firewall and Antivirus Settings

Firewall and antivirus software on your mobile device or network may block incoming connections to your Minecraft PE server. Check your device's settings or security software to ensure that Minecraft PE is allowed access through the firewall or antivirus protection. Add exceptions or create rules to allow the necessary connections for Minecraft PE.

UPnP (Universal Plug and Play)

If port forwarding seems complicated or you don't have access to your router's settings, you can try enabling Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) if your router supports it. UPnP automatically manages port forwarding for devices and applications that support it. In Minecraft PE settings, enable UPnP and restart the game. This option allows the game to automatically configure port forwarding on compatible routers.

Test Connectivity

After configuring port forwarding and making necessary network settings, test the connectivity to your Minecraft PE server. Ensure that the server is running and accessible from other devices connected to different networks. Join the server from another mobile device or computer to verify that the port forwarding and network configuration are working correctly.

External IP Address

If you're connecting to a Minecraft PE server hosted by someone else, ensure that you have the correct external IP address and port number to join. The server owner should provide you with these details. Enter the IP address and port number accurately in the Minecraft PE "Play" screen to connect to the server.

Network and port forwarding issues can sometimes pose challenges when hosting or connecting to Minecraft PE servers. By checking network connectivity, configuring port forwarding, adjusting firewall settings, and testing connectivity, you can troubleshoot and resolve these issues effectively. Remember to consult your router's documentation or seek assistance from your internet service provider if you encounter difficulties with port forwarding. With the right network configuration, you'll be able to enjoy a stable and enjoyable Minecraft PE multiplayer experience.
