Hamachi and Minecraft 1.10.2: A Beginner's Guide to Multiplayer Servers
10th Feb 2023
Understanding Hamachi:
Hamachi is a VPN software that creates a virtual network, allowing multiple devices to connect as if they were on the same local network. It enables players to create a secure and private network, essential for multiplayer gaming, including Minecraft.
Downloading and Installing Hamachi:
Visit the official Hamachi website and download the version compatible with your operating system. Install the software by following the provided instructions. Once installed, launch Hamachi on your computer.
Setting Up a Network:
After launching Hamachi, click on the "Network" tab and select "Create a new network." Enter a network name and password for your Minecraft server. Inform your friends of the network name and password, as they will need it to join the server.
Joining a Network:
If someone else has set up a Hamachi network for the Minecraft server, ask them for the network name and password. In Hamachi, click on the "Network" tab and select "Join an existing network." Enter the network name and password to connect to the server.
Configuring Minecraft Server Settings:
Launch Minecraft 1.10.2 on your computer and click on "Multiplayer." Select "Add Server" and enter a name for the server. In the server address field, type the IP address provided by Hamachi for your network. Save the settings and exit the multiplayer menu.
Starting the Minecraft Server:
One person from the network needs to host the Minecraft server. Launch Minecraft, click on "Singleplayer," and select or create a world you want to use as the server. Open the world and press "Esc" to access the pause menu. Click on "Open to LAN" and adjust the desired settings. This will make your world available for others on the Hamachi network.
Joining the Minecraft Server:
Other players on the Hamachi network can now join the Minecraft server. Launch Minecraft, click on "Multiplayer," and look for the server name you set earlier. Select the server and click "Join Server" to connect to the Minecraft world hosted by the person who started the server.
Troubleshooting and Tips:
- Ensure that everyone on the Hamachi network has the correct network name and password.
- Verify that all players are using the same version of Minecraft (1.10.2) to avoid compatibility issues.
- Make sure that Minecraft and Hamachi are allowed through any firewalls or security software on your computer.
- If experiencing connection issues, restart Hamachi and Minecraft, ensuring that the Hamachi network is active.
